A Peek Into The Design Process of 3 Unique Projects

Happy Spring Break to those who celebrate! We’re trading out of office time these few weeks and thought it would be fun to give you a round up of a few in progress jobs, so please forgive the iPhone photos and come along for the ride.

Primary Bath Rework - We are stoked to be working again with longtime clients and one of our favorite construction partners DeGroot Construction Company to freshen up this primary bath. We are adding in an arched niche for a soaking tub, creating a private water closet and expanding the shower a bit.

One detail we are particularly excited about is what we’re calling the “fat lip,” in essence a triple thick mitered countertop detail with a rounded backsplash – it brings a contemporary version of elegance that is appropriate for the primary bath.

Row House in Naperville - This is a fourth floor media loft that is going to be perfect for movies and lounging, and it also opens out onto the rooftop deck, so entertaining will be a focus as well.  Architecturally, the space has angled ceilings and some soffits to work around, so we are embracing a full wrap of color and pattern. This Phillip Jeffries cork and gilt wallpaper is getting paired with the most beautiful chocolate brown trim color for the doors and millwork. Seating will be a dark velvet sectional, but we’re adding in pops of chartreuse and berry for energy. We all can’t wait to see the finished product.

Bridal Suite - When we get the chance to work on a hospitality space, it’s a treat. This is an historic property that doubles as a wedding venue. The idea is to preserve the historicity of the space, but also freshen up furniture and decor, so it appeals to the modern bride. One particular challenge is working in the original awesome but quirky Art Deco bathroom tile choices – pink, cobalt blue and butter yellow. We are leaning into fabrics and paint to bring the story together, as well as relying on our usual vintage rugs and eclectic mix of furniture. Pale powder blue and soft peach in the bridal suite will give a “wedding cake” vibe while the groom’s room is going more hunt club. We love flexing our creative energy for non-traditional projects like this.
