A Glow Up for a Home That Nods to Mid-Century

Talk about a major glow up. This sweet family of 6 landed a killer property across the street from the pool and parks, walkable to town, all the things — but it needed a major facelift. We are still in the process of photographing all the spaces, but here is a little preview into this loosely mid-century inspired space.

Kitchen - Dreamy lush green hex tile shines at the walnut and metal hood — we like that this is an easy(ish) change out over time as the family plans to live in this home for the long term. Warm walnut, contemporary fixtures and plants galore (this fam has a serious green thumb) make for a clean, simple but inviting kitchen.

Dining banquette - This custom white oak banquette with a commercially-rated velvet is built for comfort and the realities of family living. We loved how our client had hung her kiddo’s art and decided it captured a moment of “real life” we wanted to keep in our photos. Also, note that awesome pillow — that comes from the “inventory” stash we have at the studio — I bought that in Greece six years ago and it’s been waiting for the right home.

family room interior design

Family room - Simple and neutral with the furniture, but layered with vintage pillows, kantha quilts, and a vintage pottery lamp (I’ve also been hoarding that lamp for a few years!).

Parlor/cocktail lounge - Everyone wants a cozy, moody lounge these days — perfect for tucking in with tea and book or cocktails with a few friends. Again, keeping with simple furniture frames, interest was added with textiles, color and decor. The shelving showcases family mementos and art along with a bit of storage. The wood figures on the bar have a cool backstory — the homeowner’s mother bought those on a backpacking trip through Spain in her 20s and now they’ve landed here to lighten the mood. Vintage cork lamps were found by me on a road trip through Ohio and I knew immediately they belonged in this room.

home art gallery

Art gallery - Let’s have a big celebration for collected, quirky art!  The painted ladies are the homeowner’s pieces - they got properly framed and grouped for impact. I picked up that dashing gentleman (Willie Nelson??) in Nashville a few years ago (sensing a theme here? I’m a collector in my heart of hearts!) and he was the perfect add to the ladies.  All in all, the installation turns a pass through the hallway into an experience.
