You guys, 2020 has been a doozy. Much has been written about this truly crazy year - it’s been fodder for great memes, hilarious insta-posts and unending metaphors about dumpster fires and the apocalypse. Laughing because the alternative is crying has defined much of my survival approach these last 12 months. And, while laughter certainly is a good medicine, we don’t want to gloss over the real and painful challenges we are all facing in this unprecedented year. Every time I sit down to write about design or what is happening in our little corner of the world, I am mindful that having energy to devote to beautifying our spaces is a privilege. With that perspective, we approach our designs believing that homes that reflect beauty, personality and care can give us all the gift of comfort and safety. We end this $#%#@ show of a year with gratitude and commitment to that philosophy.
Along with laughter, I have a life-long pattern of dealing with difficult times by searching for inspiration and new challenges to get after. The Achilles’ heel of this approach (not so much a formal approach as probably just a personality type!) can be added chaos, but for the most part, I’ve found swinging for the fences in challenging times to be good for my soul. Finding the ability to dream when life is dark is perhaps the clearest path to hope for me.
So with that approach in mind, we’ve got some exciting things in the works at Two Hands for 2021. We’ve found ourselves out of space - adding team members, surrounded by piles of samples, product for installs and vintage pieces we can’t pass up. When the opportunity arose to get our hands on a sweet little property with loads of potential (read: fixer upper) and a ton more space we leapt at the chance.
Besides giving us a place to stash our ever-growing inventory of beautiful old things (not us, the art and furniture!), we’ll have a dedicated sample room and the ability to carve out individual work spaces as needed. Even more exciting is the opportunity to design a space that reflects our approach and philosophy - a design lab of sorts to try new things and showcase things we love. Just like our clients, we have a budget and a timeline. We are beyond excited to share progress with you all - before and afters and all the real in-betweens.
Thank you for being a part of the Two Hands world - we don’t take it for granted and we can’t wait to share the next steps in our journey with you.
Much love and peace in the coming year,
