MID-CENTURY HOME ON THE PRESERVE

Project

Taking this Mid-Century home in an idyllic location - nestled along the edge of the forest preserve - and updating it top to bottom while embracing the very bones that make it special was our task at hand. Layout tweaks netted more openness, more storage and three en-suite bathrooms plus a powder room. With the complete kitchen renovation, five bathrooms, a basement bar area, flooring, lighting and architectural feature updates, this special home is ready welcome a family back from the West Coast.

Inspiration

At its heart of hearts, this home wants to be a groovy 70’s babe - grounded, simple but interesting. Updating the home for modern life and infusing a bit of contemporary styling in finishes was high on our clients’ wish list — the aim was to bring a bit of California modern to this gem. We used natural walnut throughout the home for the bulk of cabinetry - a design choice that continues the ground the home in warm, organic materials while the simple, artisan tile choices feel distinctly mid-century.

Client

A family with Midwest roots was ready to move back from Los Angeles to Glen Ellyn to be closer to family. Familiar with the area, they were quick to snatch up this special home and transform into a place to raise their young family. Loving the outdoors, the location of this home caught their attention. Now with all of their functional and aesthetic updates, they enjoy their touch of California modern right around the corner from family.
