A LEGACY LAKE HOUSE REBUILD

Project

Our clients had long been a part of a special community near Lake Michigan. However, their sweet cottage was no longer serving their grown family and it was time to rebuild from the ground up. Essentially, starting with an introduction to one of our favorite construction teams, this legacy lake house was rebuilt on a well known and loved property nestled into the dunes. With every detail of the build accounted for- from the tile packages to the porch swing, nautically inspired architectural details and wallpaper, bedding and a show stopping kitchen, we were thrilled to help with every aspect of reinventing their favorite lake getaway destination.

Inspiration

The tone for the home is introduced on entry with a water blue ombre mural that was a starting point for the home's design. We kept the permanent finishes light, airy and nautically inspired - rarely veering from the blue, white and aquamarine palette. Beachy light wood floors and cabinetry along with vertical shiplap and dune-colored natural stone feel warm and expected - in the best way. Special details like the custom staircase and lofted captains nook create moments of delight as you travel through the home. Of course, everything is made for beach living - durable, easy to clean and ready for the current and future generations to fully embrace the legacy of lake life.

Client

Raising their boys with summers at the beach, our clients know and love lake life. They desired something lasting and sophisticated - beachy and casual, hard working, livable and beautiful.  With of course, plenty of nods to nautical moments. This family has a long history of folks on the water and had some great memorabilia to showcase in their rebuilt home-- from an amazing trophy-mounted Marlin caught by the homeowner's mother (what a feat!!), and countless family art pieces reflecting their love of the water, sailing and the area.

Our home is wonderful. Every aspect, every room, every angle, every DeGroot and Two Hands touch… we’re so grateful to have worked with you all.” - Jim
